5 Best Rooftop Bars and Pools in Los Angeles

best rooftop bars and pools in Los Angeles california

What better way to enjoy the LA heat! Dipping into the water with a glass of margarita in your hand while being on a rooftop in Los Angeles with the LA skyscrapers as your view. Can’t beat that lifestyle!

I found 5 of the top hotels in Los Angeles with fun rooftop pools and bars. I’m also sharing their address locations to make life easier for you!

1. Broken Shaker Rooftop at FreeHand Hotel

Address: 416 W. 8th St., Los Angeles, CA 90014

The Broken Shaker is this cute and colorful rooftop bar with a Hawaiian vibe at the top of FreeHand Hotel. It is located in the heart of downtown LA. This makes their pool the center of the skyscrapers for amazing views at any part of the rooftop.

The rooftop is open to the public from 11am to 2am. Unfortunately, the pool is only available to FreeHand hotel guests from sunrise to sunset. Luckily, there is no entrance fee.

This rooftop looks amazing both during the day and during the evening. At night, the buildings surrounding the Freehand Hotel light up beautifully. Apparently, you can also ask for a blanket if you get cold at night.

Broken Shaker is a little small, so it could get crowded on the weekends. It’s a great place to chill and have a casual drink after work.

2. Skybar at The Mondrian

Los Angeles, CA 90069

The Skybar at the Mondrian is perfect for weekend pool club & parties. You will find a fun crowd and great electronic dance music with DJs playing by the poolside. Make sure to take a peak at the windows because it’s all about the views of LA.

This modern and trendy upscale bar may be the wealthy rich kids’ play ground as this place is not cheap. Unfortunately, there is sometimes a cover charge and it can get expensive especially to get a table and bottle service. So, that is just a little warning.

The swimming pool at Skybar is open daily from 11am to 6pm, but the night goes until 2am. The pool is open to the public after 1pm so bring your bikinis and good vibes!

They always have some rooftop bar events, so make sure to always check their events calendar online: https://www.sbe.com/eventcalendar/.

3. Upstairs Bar at the Ace Hotel Downtown LA

The Upstairs at Ace Hotel has a hipster and laidback vibe with typically a younger crowd. I thought that calling it ‘The Upstairs’ bar is pretty damn genius!

Aside from the panoramic views of Los Angeles from the rooftop, the architectural designs of the Ace hotel are also stunning to look at. It almost looks like a historical church and it is where you can spot the famous neon “Jesus Saves” sign. The Ace Hotel actually used to be a movie theatre back in the days.

So about the pool, there is no pool. Oops! It’s more of a jacuzzi, but its a large jacuzzi. Hence, I’m calling it a mini pool. And hey, the jacuzzi/mini pool is open to the public, so feel free to dip in even during the evening because they’ll keep it warm for you.

During the day, this rooftop spot is perfect for some brunch with friends. The handcrafted wooden tables and chairs with a cozy fireplaces adds charm to their setting. The food is amazing! Although they have more of appetizer or finger foods rather than proper meals. At night, it gets a lot busier with a DJ playing in the background.

4. The Standard LA Rooftop

The Standard rooftop is one of the most popular rooftops in Downtown Los Angeles. It has a relaxing vibe during the day where you can lounge by the water beds inside the red cabana pods.

You can swim at the heated pool, play some ping pong, lounge by the sofa beds, drink and socialize.

The modern rooftop is also surrounded by the beautiful LA skyline. It is open from 12pm to 2am daily and there is usually a DJ playing on the weekends.

Sometimes they have $10-$20 cover charge and sometimes they don’t. If you want to use the pool, there is a chance that you’d have to spend a minimum amount (about $40) on food and drinks.

5. Nomad Hotel Rooftop Bar

The Nomad rooftop bar has an outdoor cafe and bar with a roaring fireplace to keep you warm. This rooftop bar also gives me the hawaiian vibe.

Just like the Broken Shaker, the pool is only for hotel guests and from sunrise to sunset.

It’s a pretty lowkey bar if you’re not planning to go to crazy on your night out. This is the place if you want to take it easy and just socialize with your friends.
